“Reading to each other” was a common activity in the 1800’s and early 1900’s, especially among couples. But it’s rare enough today to be worthy of documentation.
John and I are diehard readers-aloud. Currently, it’s Two Towers before bed. We used to read to each other often over the phone when we were long distance in college (neither of us are big phone people), but we moved more toward car-reading after marriage.
Lately, though, Pip has been making reading Insurgent aloud in the car pretty tough with my newfound carsickness. Punk baby.
Someday soon, though, we’ll be reading aloud to him.
