Laura Stevenson with a beautiful cover of “No Children” by the Mountain Goats for the Tallahassee Turns Ten compilation.
GOD I can’t wait for this album.
This is also in celebration of my not being able to relate to this song anymore, other than in an abstract historical kind of way.
…Okay, but it doesn’t sound gleefully-stark-raving-mad, which I’ve always considered a requirement for this song. Regretful and contemplative simply doesn’t have the same effect. See, it’s like this:
You can read a lot of a thoughtful analysis others have written, or you can just read this:
I JUST LEFT TALLAHASSEE THIS MORNING AND IT WAS WONDERFUL TO SEE EVERYONE AND NOW I AM VERY, VERY TIRED.
I hadn’t been since Cassi’s wedding in December and won’t likely be back until Pip is a strapping and sturdy young fellow, and it is all very weird and wonderful. Also, this album, though it has little or nothing to do with Tallahassee, is lovely and always brings to mind a long drive I made in college from Beca, at UNF, back home to Mercer.
bringing this back because we’ve been playing the mountain goats all day at work and I love this cover.
